Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Kang Do-hyung presided over a review meeting in Jeju on Friday, November 8 for quick rescue of the large purse seine 135 Geumseong that sank about 12 nautical miles northwest of Biyangdo Island, Jeju and inspected the site search situation. This meeting was attended by officials from the Ministry of Public Safety and Security, Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Korea Coast Guard, Jeju-do, and Busan-si, starting with a report on the night-time search and rescue situation from the Korea Coast Guard followed by the sharing of rescue activities and family support status as well as the future search and rescue plans of each agency. Minister Kang urged each agency to avoid letting their guard down and to do their assigned duties "since several measures must be taken, including search and rescue and family support."
He then boarded the Coast Guard vessel P-126 at the Jeju-si Coast Guard exclusive dock and went to the scene of the sinking accident to inspect closely the search and rescue situation, encouraged the search team, and instructed them to make every effort to search and rescue the missing. The government plans to do its best in search and rescue to return the missing to their families as soon as possible.
