Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Kang Do-hyung inspected the Yeosu Fisheries Cooperative Consignment Market and the Gukdong Port construction site in Yeosu, Jeollanam Province. Minister Kang first visited the Yeosu Fisheries Cooperative Consignment Market, which opened in June 2024. He watched a dried fish auction demonstration and inspected the market. He asked for thorough hygiene and cleanliness management so that the market could always sell safe fishery products. Next, Minister Kang visited the Gukdong Port construction site and inspected the status of the project. The Gukdong Port was designated as a national fishing port in 1979, and construction of the basic facilities was completed in 1992. However, there were criticisms that the fishing port was inconvenient, such as the long wait for fishermen to enter it because it needed more facilities. Therefore, beginning with the basic survey service this year, the plan is to expand the port facilities including a small ship dock, a floating pier, and a breakwater and reinforce its functions by investing KRW 141.4 billion until 2030.
