On May 23, the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries inspected the waste collection project site at Hansuri Breakwater in Hallim Port, Jeju. The project has been initiated for the first time this year on a pilot basis to tackle the issue of marine debris in hard-to-access areas such as breakwater. Discarded nets, buoys, and styrofoam containers left unattended for long periods pose a high risk of floating out to the sea during severe weather and become accumulated waste if not collected in a timely way.
