On May 16, the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries inspected the fishing operations at the fishing grounds of the Five West Sea Islands located adjacent to the Northern Limit Line and visited Baengnyeongdo Island to hold a meeting with fishermen from the five West Sea islands.
First, Minister Kang inspected the fishing grounds of the Five West Sea Islands, which was expanded to about 60 times the size of Yeouido as of April 1. Minister Kang communicated with the fishing guidance vessel, Mugunghwa 14, from a helicopter to receive a report on the operation status of the fishing vessels in the area, and asked for thorough safety management of the Korean vessels. Minister Kang also visited the 6th Brigade of the Marine Corps located on Baengnyeongdo Island to encourage the marines protecting the nation at the forefront lines of the West Sea while asking them to maintain a seamless cooperative system between the military, policy, and the Ministry in the eradication of illegal fishing by Chinese vessels and to ensure safe fishing operations.
