Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, the Korea Ocean Business Corporation and Hyundai Globis will sign a business agreement regarding the lease of four new 10,800 CEU Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTCs) that are to be constructed under the Public Shipowner Project*. The agreement is aimed at solving the export logistics challenges of domestic finished car manufacturers, which have been ongoing since last year due to the global shortage of automobile carriers. Through this agreement, the shipping firms will secure four new car carriers (scheduled for delivery in 2027) without the burden of initial shipbuilding costs. The partial prioritization of cargo space for domestic car makers is also expected to help ease difficulties of the domestic car exporters.
