On January 23rd (Tuesday), the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (Minister Kang Do-Hyung) held the launching ceremony for the 2030 Advisory Group, a new channel for the Ministry to listen to the voices of young people, at the Grand Conference Room, Building 5 of the Sejong Government Complex. The Youth Assistant role and the 2030 Advisory Group are programs first introduced in 2022 by the Yoon Suk-Yeol administration and since piloted in nine governmental organizations as communications channels for young people in their 20s and 30s to directly convey their perspectives and demands. Last year, following the expansion of the program to 24 ministerial-level central administrative agencies, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries held an open recruitment process from September 25th to October 13th, through which a total of 20 youth assistants were selected. The MOF 2030 Advisory Group is composed of a Youth Assistant as the group leader and members with various career backgrounds, such as workers in the maritime and fisheries sector, university students, navigation officers, and lawyers. For one year, they will be divided into four subcommittees—fisheries and fishing villages; shipping, maritime transportation, and ports; marine environment; and maritime industry—and play critical roles in conveying the views of younger generations on MOF’s major policies, suggesting improvements, and helping identify new policies.
