On August 9th, Minister Cho Seung Hwan of Oceans and Fisheries visited Incheon Port to inspect readiness against north-bound Typhoon No. 6 Khanun. The typhoon is expected to arrive on the shores of Gyeongsang-namdo on the morning of the 10th and traverse the Korean peninsula, with the potential risk of typhoon damage even along the western coasts. Minister Cho visited the Sun-Kwang New Container Terminal to examine the fixtures on facilities that are vulnerable to strong winds, such as container cranes for offloading and the containers stacked at the storage yard. He also checked on measures to protect against drowning due to tidal waves and flooding. Later, he visited Stage 1-2 container pier construction sites at the Incheon New Port to inspect the evacuation and safety measures for offshore vessels, personnel, facilities, and equipment mobilized for port construction as well as preparedness of the construction sites against soil erosion and drainage.
