On July 17th, Minister Cho Seung Hwan of Oceans and Fisheries inspected the readiness of the maritime and fisheries sector and the status of their actions in response to the continued torrential rain. The torrential rain, which started on July 9th, resulted in precipitation exceeding 500mm on average nationwide for more than a week, causing many casualties and property damage. The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries decided to expand operations of its Emergency Response Headquarters at 20:30 on July 13th, to focus more of its management efforts on vulnerable facilities, such as fishing boats and fish farms, while inspecting the safety status of multi-purpose facilities, including harbors and fishing ports.
