On April 19th, Minister Cho Seung Hwan of Oceans and Fisheries held a meeting with the Norwegian Ambassador to Korea, Anne Kari Hansen Ovind, at the Sejong office. During the meeting, Minister Cho explained the ongoing collaboration between Korea and Norway in the areas of quarantine and fisheries science, and expressed hopes to expand the scope of collaboration to all areas of marine and fisheries. In addition, Minister Cho stressed the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in international shipping and collaborate to tighten greenhouse gas emission targets set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC). Furthermore, he highlighted the importance of Norway as an Arctic collaboration partner of Korea, while proposing the two nations further collaborate in Arctic research and education policies. In particular, as Norway assumes the chairmanship of the Arctic Council this year and Korea marks its 10 years as an observer nation in the Arctic Council, Minister Cho expressed his hope that this meeting will be a turning point to further develop Korea-Norway Arctic collaboration.
