On April 6th, Minister Cho Seung Hwan of Oceans and Fisheries visited the Busan New Port to inspect the construction site of Pier 2-5 of the Busan New Port West Container Terminal, Korea’s first fully automated container terminal scheduled to officially open this October, and provided encouragement to officials.
Pier 2-5 of the New Port will be operated as a port embedded with an end-to-end automated system from the berthing of ships to entering and exiting the port with automated transport equipment. At the construction site, Minister Cho commented that "the opening of a fully automated pier in Korea will serve as a stepping stone for Busan Port to become a smart global logistics hub” while asking for "continued commitment to ensure the timely opening of the new container terminal” and “special attention to safety to ensure prevention of accidents above all else.”
