More Convenient Application for the Designation of Excellent New Logistics Technology Starting 2025

- Improving applicant convenience by integrating the application procedures and rolling recruitment

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF; Minister Kang Do-hyung) and the Korea Institute of Marine Science and Technology Promotion (KIMST; Director Oh Woon-yul) announced that they would integrate the application procedures and change the application method to rolling submission to improve the convenience of applying for New Excellent Technology (NET) in the logistics designation scheme starting 2025.

The NET in the logistics designation scheme designates technologies that are the first to be developed in Korea or which significantly improve existing technologies through experts’ deliberations in accordance with the Framework Act on Logistics Policies. Various benefits are provided to the designated excellent logistics new technology, such as △eligibility to apply for designation as an excellent procurement item, △application for loan support from the marine and fisheries technology commercialization fund, and △eligibility for mandatory purchase products by public institutions. Seven new technologies have been designated since the system was first implemented in 2020.

The existing application procedure for the designation of NET in logistics was divided into two parts— the announcement by MOF and receiving and deliberation by KIMST—making it difficult to apply. Additionally, with announcements made in both first and second halves of the year, applicants had to wait until the next announcement if they missed the application deadline.

In December 2024, MOF revised the Operations Handbook for the NET Designation Scheme (MOF notification) to outsource all application procedures including announcements, document submissions, and evaluations to KIMST. Starting 2025, KIMST will shift to a rolling application procedure for the NET Designation Scheme, allowing applicants to submit their applications anytime. KIMST will announce the implementation plan for the 2025 NET program—including this scheme improvement—through its website (www.kimst.re.kr) in January.

“Through this improvement of the NET Designation Scheme, we will identify innovative new shipping logistics technologies such as digital and eco-friendly technologies and actively support their application in the field,” Minister Kang Do-hyung said.
