Further Expansion of Support for Commercialization of New Technologies by Identifying 16 Promising Marine and Fisheries Technologies
- Expanding benefits including opportunities for trial construction and pilot purchases as well as private contracts for products applying new technologies
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF; Minister Kang Do-hyung) announced on Tuesday, December 31 that it certified 16 New Excellent Technologies (NETs) in marine and fisheries for the second half of 2024, and that it would implement the verification of NET products starting 2025 to expand support for the commercialization of promising marine and fisheries technologies.
MOF has been certifying newly developed or innovatively improving technologies in the marine and fisheries sector since 2017 by evaluating their technical quality and field applicability. The newly added 16 technologies bring the total of new technologies that have been certified to date to 142.
NETs certified in the second half of this year include Korea’s first optical gyro compass for ships, a technology for formulating fermented oyster extracts with growth-enhancing properties using lactic acid bacteria, and a coastal wetland protection method using oyster shell-laminated fiber gabions.
Companies with new technology certifications are given extra points when selecting enterprises to carry out R&D projects and venture investment support projects implemented by MOF and are also given opportunities for trial and pilot purchases.
In addition, starting 2025, private contracts may be offered under the Act on Contracts to Which the State is a Party and the Act on Contracts to Which a Local Government is a Party for products that have passed the verification of NET application.
Companies wishing to receive certification for NET marine and fisheries and verification of products applying NET 2025 can refer to the public notice posted on MOF’s website (www.mof.go.kr) and apply through the Marine and Fisheries Technology Evaluation System (tech.kimst.re.kr).
“We will proactively support our marine and fisheries companies in continuously developing and commercializing excellent new marine and fisheries technologies covering all areas of the industry from marine bio to aquaculture, marine environment, and ports, so that they can have a presence in global markets,” Minister Kang Do-hyung said.
