Expansion of Target Tenants for the Maritime Cluster
- Revising the maritime cluster development plan that includes expanding core industries and strengthening incentives for tenant companies
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF; Minister Kang Do-hyung) announced on Friday, December 27 that it had revised the development plans for the maritime cluster at Busan Port and Gwangyang Port.
Maritime clusters are areas created in existing idle port facilities to implement the integration and convergence of maritime and ocean-related industries in accordance with the Special Act on the Designation, Development, etc. of Maritime Clusters.
To revitalize the designated maritime clusters in the Busan and Gwangyang ports, MOF has revised development plans for the maritime clusters in Busan Port and Gwangyang Port, with the expansion of the scope of tenant companies, expansion of core industries, and establishment of new incentives through cooperation with local governments and related organizations as the main contents.
In this process, the ministry collected opinions from local residents, related ministries and agencies, and experts and finalized the revision following deliberation and resolution by the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Development Committee.
“We expect the revision of the maritime cluster development plan to revitalize the maritime cluster to encourage new marine industries such as marine mobility and eco-friendly fuel ships as well as companies and institutions related to marine and fisheries R&D to move in,” Minister Kang Do-hyung said.
