- MOF expects to strengthen cooperation, including building digital shipping routes, by attending the 9th Korea-Singapore Maritime Safety Policy Conference
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) announced that the delegation led by Director General Choi Seong-yong of the Maritime Affairs and Safety Policy Bureau will attend the 9th Korea-Singapore Maritime Safety Policy Conference in Singapore on Friday, November 22. At this maritime safety policy meeting, Korea and Singapore plan to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation on major international maritime issues between the two countries.
Since MOF and the Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) of Singapore signed the MOU on Maritime Safety Cooperation in August 2010, the two countries have held the Maritime Safety Policy Meeting alternately every year and have carried out various cooperative activities to develop the maritime industry and enhance safety.
The 9th meeting will discuss ways of mutual cooperation, including △Responding to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) policies, △Cooperating on port state control, △Improving navigation safety in the Straits of Malacca and Singapore, △Preventing damage from piracy in Asia, and △Strengthening maritime cybersecurity.
In particular, this conference will focus on discussing the plan to build the Korea-Singapore green digital Shipping Route being promoted by the two countries as part of the decarbonization and digital transformation policy of international shipping that the two countries are promoting and negotiating to prepare a draft MOU containing specific cooperation items necessary for building the route.
“We will further strengthen the friendly relations between the two countries for the development of the maritime industry and reinforcement of safety and closely cooperate on common issues such as building the Korea-Singapore green/digital shipping routes,” said Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Kang Do-hyung.
