UNESCAP Transport Committee to Discuss Directions for Sustainable Maritime Transport Development in Asia-Pacific
- MOF to discuss the importance of maritime transport connectivity and measures for decarbonization of the shipping industry
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) announced that it would attend the 8th UNESCAP Transport Committee in Bangkok, Thailand from November 5 to 7, 2024.
The UNESCAP Transport Committee is a regular meeting to discuss transport issues in the Asia-Pacific region and develop strategies for building sustainable transport systems. Attendees of this meeting will discuss ∆ Efficient transportation and logistics networks, ∆ Sustainable transport systems, and ∆ Key transportation issues such as safe, inclusive transportation mobility.
Having contributed to the Action Plan for Sustainable Transport Development in the Asia-Pacific region, MOF will emphasize the importance of strengthening maritime transport connectivity between regions. In particular, it will highlight the importance of an intergovernmental cooperation platform and reaffirm its commitment to participate actively in strengthening cooperation with Pacific Island countries.
Moreover, MOF will attend the Sustainable Port Network side event to discuss the Korean government's efforts to decarbonize the shipping industry and direction of development in the Asia-Pacific region. The Busan Port Authority, Korea Maritime Institute, and former IMO Secretary-General Lim Ki-taek will also grace the event as representatives of Korea.
“This discussion at the Transportation Committee is an opportunity to strengthen maritime transportation cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region and publicize Korea’s efforts to build a sustainable transportation system. We will continue to cooperate with the international community to contribute to the development of an eco-friendly transportation system,” Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Kang Do-hyung said.
