3rd Special Inspection of Point-of-Origin Labeling for Imported and Seasonal Fishery Products

-Intensive inspection of point-of-origin labeling for frozen squid, live scallops, live sea bream, live octopus, crab, shrimp, etc. on September 30 - November 1

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) announced that it will conduct the third special inspection of the country of origin labeling of imported fishery products from Monday, September 30 to Friday, November 1 to eradicate violations of country of origin labeling of imported fishery products and allow consumers to purchase fishery products with confidence.

During this special inspection, the Public-Private Joint Inspection Team consisting of investigating public officials from the National Fishery Products Quality Management Service and honorary inspectors will conduct inspections focusing on frozen squid, live scallops, live sea bream, and live octopus—which have a high number of violations of point-of-origin labeling—and seasonal seafood such as crabs and shrimp.

The inspection team will inspect over 2,500 importers, distributors, and retailers, handling inspection items and cracking down on violations. Anyone caught falsely labeling the point of origin is subject to imprisonment of up to 7 years or fine of up to KRW 100 million, and failing to indicate the point of origin is subject to fine of up to KRW 10 million.
