Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to Support Nurturing Professionals in Fishery Products by Launching Korea’s First Department of Blue Food Technology Contract

 

-Department of Blue Food Technology Contract tailored to the fishery food industry to open on September 5

 

 The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) will create and open the Department of Blue Food Technology Contract (Master’s Program) at Gyeongsang National University.

 

 The Department of Blue Food Tech* Contract is an educational program that aims to foster core talents meeting the specific needs of the fishery products industry. Last May, MOF selected Gyeongsang National University as the operating institute for Korea's first Blue Food Technology Contract academic program after comprehensively evaluating operational strategies, educational performance conditions, etc.

 

 *Blue Food Technology: A new industry integrating advanced technologies like bio, AI, big data, Internet of Things (IoT), 3D printing, and robotics into the seafood industry.

 

 The Contract Department's curriculum consists of introduction to seafood products such as Introduction to Blue Food Technology and Blue Food Processing Technology, interdisciplinary major theories that reflects the industry's needs such as the Functional Convergence Material Industry Theory and Marketing Theory, and field practices. The contract classes will be available on evenings during weekdays and on weekends to enable industry workers to balance work and academic activities.

 

 A total of 17 professionals from the seafood product industry will attend the first semester for the Contract Department in accordance with the Seafood Industry Promotion and Support Act. They will receive a master's degree after completing 24 credits over 2 years (four semesters) and submitting the required thesis.

 

 MOF plans to support the department's operating expenses, tuition, and costs for implementing on-site technical problem-solving projects. Students who receive MOF's support must work for at least one year after graduation at their current company.

 

 “I am really looking forward to attending the Contract Department where I can acquire specialized knowledge in related fields while working at my current job. I will become an expert in the seafood products industry through this program,” a student from the Department of Blue Food Technology Contract at Gyeongsang National University vowed.
