Introduction of the Latest Pilotage Simulator to Prevent Maritime Accidents

- Opening ceremony for the relocation and expansion of the Korea Pilot Education Center and the 3rd Pilot's Day commemoration ceremony.

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) has announced that it will introduce a state-of-the-art pilotage simulator to prevent maritime traffic accidents and enhance the capabilities of Korean pilots.

The MOF and Korea Pilot Education Center (KOPEC) are investing KRW 3 billion between 2023 and 2024 in a project to support pilotage training equipment, such as pilotage simulators, to prevent he kinds of ship accidents that occur while ships are entering and exiting ports.

The pilotage simulator being introduced on this occasion is expected to greatly improve pilots' expertise and disaster safety response capabilities by replicating the actual ship steering space and equipment and allowing training in various situations, such as adverse weather conditions, ship fires, and flooding.

Meanwhile, KOPEC will hold an opening ceremony to commemorate the move to a new educational space in which it will install the pilot simulator and provide a specialized educational curriculum.

After the opening ceremony, the Korea Maritime Pilots Association will also hold a “Pilots Day” commemoration event, which it has promoted since 2022, to raise awareness of the importance of pilots' work and to encourage them to work harder.
