Discussing the ocean agenda, including marine environment, IUU fishing, and climate change, since 2014

During the 27th Cabinet Meeting, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries reported its plans to host the 10th Our Ocean Conference and announced that the conference will be held at BEXCO Busan for three days from April 28 to 30, 2025.

Held annually since 2014, the Our Ocean Conference* is recognized as a high-level international conference on the theme of oceans and attended by more than 1,000 opinion leaders in the field of oceans, including heads of states and governments from more than 100 nations and representatives of 400 international organizations and non-profit organizations.

The Our Ocean Conference features panel discussions and pledges of actions in six areas—marine pollution, marine protected areas, climate change, sustainable fisheries, sustainable blue economies, and marine security—as well as on a special agenda topic selected by the host country. In addition, a number of side events are voluntarily organized by the participants.

Moreover, global cooperation frameworks are in place overlooking major global challenges such as eradication of IUU fishing, reduction of discarded fishing gear, and ratification of the BBNJ (Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction) Agreement, which is credited for contributing to the recent adoption of the Convention on the High Seas**, an international treaty for the protection of the marine environment in international waters.

The 10th Our Ocean Conference will be held under the slogan “Our Ocean, Our Action,“ and will feature the special agenda topic of ”Ocean Digital“ as a means to facilitate actions for sustainable oceans.
