Korea and China Jointly Creating a Prosperous West Sea

- Hosting the 2024 Korea-China Joint Juvenile Fish Release Day commemoration event on June 19

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries will be hosting a commemoration ceremony on June 19 at Jeongok Port in Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do to celebrate the 2024 Korea-China Joint Juvenile Fish Release Day, which aims to promote fisheries resources in the West Sea.

The Korea-China Joint Juvenile Fish Release campaign has been held four times since its inception in 2018 to strengthen cooperation between the two nations to foster and protect fisheries resources in the West Sea. The fifth release event will be attended by the Deputy Minister of the Fisheries Policy Office, Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries of Korea and the Director-General of the Bureau of Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China.

This year, about 3.26 million fish, including yellow croaker, red snapper, and blue crab, are to be released, all of which are migratory species of high economic value found throughout the West Sea and highly favored by the people of both countries.

Moreover, starting this year, the two nations will continue their exchanges not only for fish releases but also to prepare for a more scientific and systematic resource management plan, including discussions on exchanging genetic information of the released fish.
