MOF Partners with the Private Sector to Actively Engage in Marine Waste and Climate Change Issues

- Private-sector roundtable on marine & environment ESG activities to be held May 30 (Thursday)

On May 30th, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (Minister Kang Do-Hyung) will be hosting a roundtable meeting with the private sector to share public-private cooperation achievements and discuss new projects in marine and environment ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) activities.

This is the second such private-sector ESG roundtable meeting, where 11 private companies, including major Korean manufacturing and financial businesses, are to participate. The first roundtable introduced projects in the marine and environment sector where private companies could participate and actively encouraged their participation.

This year’s meeting will share best practices in ESG cooperation between the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and private companies, such as the operation of a marine environment experience center for children and the establishment of seagrass forests on the coast of the South Sea. Afterward, the Ministry will introduce detailed marine environment projects targeted to conserve the marine ecosystem, reduce marine waste, respond to climate change, promote international cooperation, and raise awareness, as part of efforts to promote new public-private partnerships. In addition, the Ministry will share its plans to promote the “Our Ocean Conference,” a flagship international conference in the marine sector that is to be held in Korea next year.
