On April 24th (Wednesday), the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (Minister Kang Do-Hyung) signed an MoU with POSCO and other related organizations* to promote public-private cooperation in the creation of sea forests.  Through this MoU, the four organizations will work towards ▲ promoting carbon neutrality, fishery resources, and biodiversity, ▲ preserving healthy marine ecosystems and promoting ESG management, and ▲ striving for international blue carbon certification of seaweed and other marine forests. The four institutions will form a working group to discuss specific cooperation plans for each institution.

Notably, this signing ceremony marks the fourth cooperative effort between the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and POSCO (2007, 2010, 2014, 2024)* and is expected to serve as a stepping stone for the government, the private sector, and the public to actively respond to the challenges of climate change through the creation of sea forests that play a critical role as marine carbon absorption sources.
