- Promoting the establishment of technical standards for the development of eco-friendly energy infrastructure -

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (Minister Cho Seung Hwan) will be hosting an expert seminar on December 8th (Friday) at KDB Life Tower (BND Partners Room 1) in Seoul, with participation from academia, public agencies, and engineering firms involved in the development and operation of carbon-neutral ports, under the objective to establish technical standards and safety management guidelines required for building carbon-neutral ports.

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries is currently drafting the Basic Plan for Building Carbon Neutral Ports to achieve the 2050 Carbon Neutrality goal adopted by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The Ministry also plans to establish relevant technical standards and safety management guidelines necessary for the development and operation of carbon-neutral ports.

Accordingly, the upcoming seminar will serve as a venue to discuss the specifics of the technical standards and safety management guidelines. First, discussions around technical standards will focus on the size of carriers for importing eco-friendly fuels (including hydrogen and ammonia), criteria for carbon-neutral port locations, separation distance between piers and shipping lanes, and the anti-seismic rating of each facility.

In addition, discussions on the safety management guidelines will cover the detailed guidelines for each step from unloading to storage and supply of eco-friendly energy, accident prevention guidelines, and the necessary safety facilities.
