The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (Minister Cho Seung Hwan) plans to host various events for the public to participate in before and after the 8th Arctic Partnership Week.

The Arctic Partnership Week is an international forum that was launched in 2016 under the aim of expanding international cooperation in various areas that span Arctic-related policies, scientific research, and the relevant industries. The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries will be holding various side events starting from December 2nd (Saturday) to ensure that not only Arctic stakeholders but also the public experience the importance and value of the Arctic.

First, a series of scientific and cultural events related to the Arctic and other polar regions will be hosted in Seoul from December 2nd (Saturday) to 3rd (Sunday), prior to the start of the Arctic Partnership Week. The Seoul Community Cultural Center Seogyo Branch (Hapjeong) will be showcasing the play ‘Drill,’ with the Arctic as its background, as well as a talk concert, where speakers will share their stories about the polar regions. Anyone wishing to participate can apply online.

In addition, the National Maritime Museum of Korea will host a polar experience exhibition from December 10th (Sunday) to January 14th (Sunday) where the public can see and experience the polar environment firsthand.

Minister Cho Seung Hwan of Oceans and Fisheries explained that (the Ministry) “has prepared a variety of event programs for the public to raise their awareness on the value of the Arctic prior to this year’s Arctic Partnership Week.” He also asked for “the interest and participation of the public in the 8th Arctic Partnership Week, which plans to explore new avenues of Arctic cooperation, and various side events.”

A diverse range of programs are also planned during the Arctic Partnership Week, including public lectures on the importance of the Arctic and climate change, seminars and tasting events for Arctic food culture and Korean seafood. Those who wish to participate in the event may register in advance via the official Arctic Partnership Week website by December 9th (Saturday) or register onsite on the day of the event.
