- Calls for joint efforts in creating safe oceans and further developing the maritime industry

On October 18th (Wednesday), Vice Minister Park Sung-hoon of Oceans and Fisheries hosted a Roundtable Meeting for Maritime Safety-related Institutions at the Sejong Government Office.

The meeting was attended by the heads of nine organizations related to maritime safety, including the Korea Maritime Transportation Safety Authority, Korea Institute of Aids to Navigation, Korea Maritime Institute, Korea Shipping Association, and the Korea Shipowners’ Association.

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries provided a venue for sharing their major policies, drafted earlier this year, in the field of maritime safety, including ▲ measures to reduce casualties in maritime accidents, ▲ development of smart navigation aid technology, and ▲ conversion of Korean ships into eco-friendly ships while introducing key maritime safety initiatives of related organizations and discussing cooperation measures.

In particular, the government and related organizations decided to actively cooperate to ensure the prevention of casualties during the marine accident-prone fall season.
