The MOF produces a vice-chairman of the OECD COFI in 5-consecutive years

- Korean voices on international fisheries policy will expectedly be more shared

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF; Minister Kim, Young-Choon) stated that Director Lee Anho of Marine Territory Division was unanimously elected as a vice-chairman of the 120th Session of the Fisheries Committee (COFI) of the OECD
(Nov. 14-16, Paris) in 5 years in a row.

The COFI leads the international fisheries system where 28 member countries join including Korea, the US, the EU and Japan to discuss cooperative plans and propose them to the FAO, RFMOs and other organizations.

Director Lee has fulfilled his duty as vice-chairman of the COFI for the last 4 years. Taking his 5th term, an opportunity is offered again to demonstrate his expertise and practical ability to address issues in fisheries which were mostly obtained from his academic experience in Washington State University in the U.S. (2001-2003) and career as permanent delegation in the OECD (2012-2013).

While the election makes Korea’s important position in fisheries ascertained, Korea will expectedly take advantage of influencing decisions within the OECD as he plays an important role of addressing issues.

Director Lee resolved to perform his duty saying “I am committed to my work as vice-chairman to enhance my nation’s prestige and strengthen amicable relations between Korea and OECD member countries as well as the Secretariat.”
