- Understanding and conducting a survey on the current status of the port technology industry, expanding expertise, and supporting business operators
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF; Minister Kang Do-hyung) announced that the draft Enforcement Decree of the Act on Fostering and Supporting Port Technology Industry was passed at the Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, January 14, 2024 ahead of the enforcement of the act on January 24, 2025.
The Act on Fostering and Supporting Port Technology Industry is a law enacted to strengthen the international competitiveness of Korea's port technology industry, including port equipment and parts (hardware) and operating systems (software) related to the automation and intelligence of ports. The main contents of the draft enforcement decree are as follows:
First, it stipulates establishing a port technology industry development plan and examining the domestic and international market conditions, business status, and order receipt and delivery performance of the port technology industry.
Furthermore, it will establish criteria and procedures for designating professional training institutions and specialist organizations and lay the foundation for improving expertise in the port technology industry.
Additionally, the enactment includes provisions for supporting port technology industry operators, easing qualifications for port hinterland tenants, and designating pilot project zones for the port technology industry.
"With the Enforcement Decree of the Act on Fostering and Supporting Port Technology Industry, we are now in a position to establish a structured policy framework to foster the development of Korea's port technology industry. We will continue our efforts to secure the international competitiveness of our ports amid the global competition in port logistics," Minister Kang Do-hyung said.
