Embracing the Sea, Connecting with Technology, Opening the Future Holding the 2024 Marine and Fisheries Science and Technology Week
- November 26 – 28; more than 20 programs including publicizing marine and fisheries R&D achievements and sharing industrial technology trends
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF, Minister Kang Do-hyung) announced that it would hold the 2024 Marine and Fisheries Science and Technology Week at Yeouido FKI Tower in Seoul from Tuesday, November 26 to Thursday, November 28 to support promotion, commercialization, and investment recruitment for R&D in marine and fisheries.
The 2024 Marine and Fisheries Science and Technology Week will be held for the third year under the theme "Embracing the Sea, Connecting with Technology, Opening the Future." The event will feature various programs to identify future tasks in marine and fisheries science and technology, with the industry, academe, and research institutes gathering to share R&D and commercialization outcomes and discuss cooperation plans.
Key figures in marine and fisheries science and technology including Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Kang Do-hyung will attend the opening ceremony on the first day. Starting with the keynote speech by President Kim Seong-geun of POSTECH on “Innovation in Marine and Fisheries Science and Technology and Response to the Climate Crisis,” the event on the first day will feature △the 2024 Marine and Fisheries Science and Technology Excellence Awards Ceremony for researchers and companies, △the Ocean Trends Conference where presentations will be given on scientific and technological issues such as marine climate and ecology, marine biotechnology, and aquaculture, and △a corporate investment fair.
On the second day, a presentation on the development of polar exploration technology will be held under the theme of “Science and Technology” to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Polar Research Institute. A forum on AI technology development and its application to marine and fisheries will be held as well. Broadcaster and EU Goodwill Ambassador on Climate Action Julian Quintart will also attend the event and deliver a special lecture aimed at raising public awareness of marine and fisheries science and technology.
On the third day, various programs are provided to support corporate growth, such as: △purchase consultation sessions for mutual growth to provide 1:1 purchasing consultation opportunities between approximately 70 SMEs and 50 buyers, including public institutions and large corporations; △seminar on sales channel expansion to strengthen marketing strategies; and △startup seminar themed “Industry.”
Featured programs throughout the event will include an exhibition of excellent R&D outcomes in 2024, a polar photo exhibition featuring polar oceans and flora and fauna, and an event booth offering various prizes. Interested people can visit the official website (www.oceaninnoweek.com) for detailed schedules and participation information for each program of the 2024 Marine and Fisheries Science and Technology Week.
"I expect the event to be an opportunity for the marine and fisheries science and technology to get closer to the public. Even amid the turbulent situation where the global industrial market is rapidly being reorganized, we will expand research and investment to resolve pressing issues in the marine and fisheries industry practically," said Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Kang Do-hyung.
