Korea’s First Clean Combined Energy Cluster Project in Port

Selection of HD Hyundai Oilbank as the Daesan Port Project Manager

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) announced that it has selected HD Hyundai Oilbank as the operator of the Clean Combined Energy Cluster Construction at Daesan Port project, which is implemented through a non-governmental port development* method.

The Clean Combined Energy Cluster Construction at Daesan Port project builds a complex facility to produce, store, and distribute eco-friendly energy such as green hydrogen and ammonia at a port, for the first time in Korea, as part of a carbon neutral policy to respond to climate change.

The MOF plans to begin the construction in the first half of 2025 after acquiring the permission to implement a non-governmental port development project in the second half of this year through the Daesan Regional Oceans and Fisheries Office, the agency managing the project site. After soft ground improvement work on the port landfill site, biofuel facilities, a refined oil production facility that pyrolyzes waste plastic, and a hydrogen production facility using clean ammonia, will be constructed sequentially. The project is scheduled to be completed in 2031.
