Providing comprehensive safe navigation information to coastal ships 100 kilometers away through the Sea Navi app

- Sea Navi’s “Marine Traffic Safety Radio” to begin broadcasting on July 23

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) announced that it will begin the pilot service of “Marine Traffic Radio” on July 23 using Sea Navi’s broadband maritime wireless communication network (LTE-M).

The service will provide safe navigation information to ships up to 100 kilometers offshore during disasters or worsening weather, just like land-based radios. Moreover, it is expected to prevent marine accidents and improve the medical welfare of seamen by providing safety information related to seasonal and fishing boat operation safety rules and seaman health management information.

Anyone can use the radio service for marine traffic safety by installing the Sea Navi app on his/her smartphone; starting September, anyone boarding ships equipped with a Bada Navi terminal can listen to the service through the terminal. The pilot service will be available twice a week—Tuesday and Thursday—until October; official service will be available every day when it begins in November. Anyone who missed a live broadcast can listen to it multiple times using the replay function.
